Help for the Jobless
We’ve all been affected directly or inderectly by the slowing economy. We here at TQM Network have wondered how we can help do our part to change things… As I meet friends that have lost their jobs I’ve offered them our best practice sessions as a chance to sharpen their skills and network with other professionals. More recently I started to promote that and offer that beyond just friends, to almost any displaced professional.
So what’s a best practice session?
- They are geared at current problems and the best known solutions
- They are led by world class subject matter experts
- They cover a variety of topics – a historic sample: http://tqmnet.com/sample.php
- They evovle as our members give us feedback on their top concerns
- They are designed to cover as many functional areas within organizations i.e. HR, EHS, Project Management, Process Improvement, Quality, IT, Finance…. as well as general topics such as Leadership, Communication, Time Management…
- They are sometimes tours to regional organizations to see how they do specific things well
- They provide a rich environement for ideas to spread and build upon each other
- They are ideal places to network with professionals who are committed to improving thir organizations
- They are NOT a leads group, but a chance to make genuine connections with quality professionals
- People who abuse this will not be admitted to future sessions
- They are NOT a big sales pitch, although our partners do often make connections with companies we work with
- Sessions are 99% valuable information and 1% “sales pitch”
- We do evaluations on all speakers, if they do not perform well, they do not perform for us
So what’s the offer?
- If you are a displaced professional you can attend most events (40+ sessions per year), once you get hired you no longer qualify
- Advanced workshops and training (i.e. Lean Six Sigma training) carry a cost for members, you will access the same discounts they do
- Grants and scholarships may exist to further assist you in advanced training
